About Prop Full Time Staffing

The Hillsboro Fire Protection District will be asking voters to approve a $0.35 per $100.00 of assessed valuation tax increase which will be on the April 5th, 2022 ballot. The tax increase will be phased in over a 3 year period and if passed would go into effect on for the 2023 tax year. It will be implemented in the following manner:
2023 - $0.25
2024 - $0.05
2025 - $0.05

The Hillsboro Fire Protection District has reached a point where we can no longer safely operate with only 2 people on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Operating with only 2 people on duty was never safe to begin with, but with the fire district's increased call volume, decrease in people willing to volunteer and need to quickly respond to emergencies, it has become more important then ever for the safety of the public and our firefighters to have additional staffing on duty.

If this tax increase passes, this would allow the permeant hiring of 6 full time firefighters to bring our staffing levels to 4 firefighters on duty at all times.

The Hillsboro Fire Protection District had asked the voters to approve a $0.50 tax increase in 2020 and 2021 to hire the 6 full time firefighters and build a new firehouse. Both times the measures failed. The Fire District reached out to many community members who stated the amount we asked for was to much. With the information at hand, the Board of Directors of the Hillsboro Fire District and Administration decided to eliminate the idea of a new fire house therefore lowing the amount we needed to ask for.
